Put asparagus, onion, garlic, broth, salt and pepper in a large saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer for 10 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Cool slightly. Puree mixture in batches in a food processor or blender until smooth. Return to pan. Stir in yogurt and lemon juice. Heat through (do not boil). Ladle soup into bowls; serve warm or chilled.

In a large slow cooker, combine the onion, garlic, chicken stock, asparagus, thyme and black pepper. 2. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the asparagus is very tender. 3. Remove the insert from the slow cooker and let cool slightly. Use an immersion blender or stand blender to puree the soup until completely smooth. 4. Stir in the cream and salt to taste. Serve warm with optional toppings.
